THE ISRAELI FELDENKRAIS GUILD · EST. TEL AVIV

The world calls it neuroplasticity. Moshé Feldenkrais called it learning.

The Method was created here, decades before the science had a name for it. Today, 435 certified teachers carry it forward — from Eilat to Rosh Pina.

ABOUT · THE ORIGINAL

Not a trend.The origin.

Dr. Moshé Feldenkrais — physicist, engineer, one of Europe's judo pioneers — asked a question far ahead of his time: how does the human nervous system learn to move, and how can it learn again, better?

He answered it here. He lived and taught in Tel Aviv until the end of his life, and the lessons he gave became the foundation studied by teachers on every continent. The Israeli Guild holds this source — and carries it into the present.

THE ALEXANDER YANAI ARCHIVE

One room in Tel Aviv. Studied on every continent.

On Alexander Yanai Street, Moshé Feldenkrais taught lesson after lesson to a small group who came every week. More than 550 of those lessons were recorded — and they became the material teachers everywhere still learn from.

Every national guild can teach the Method. Only this one keeps the room it came from.

THE FIRST LESSON · FREE, AT LAUNCH

One lesson. Twelve minutes. Lying down.

The fastest way to understand the Method is not to read about it. Put on headphones, lie on the floor, and follow a guided lesson in Hebrew — the same way it was taught here.

Demo placeholder — the audio lesson is supplied and approved by the Guild before launch.

FELDENKRAIS × LONGEVITY

Movement is longevity. The manual was written here.

Longevity is not only how long we live — it is how long we move with ease, balance and confidence. That is precisely what the Feldenkrais Method trains: not muscles, but the nervous system that runs them.

01

A younger nervous system

The brain can refine movement at any age. Feldenkrais works directly with this ability — gentle, precise, without strain.

02

Balance, walking, independence

Easier turning, steadier walking, safer getting up: the everyday skills that decide quality of life in later decades.

03

A practice for life

No equipment, no force, no age limit. What you learn stays with you — a lifelong tool, not a treatment you depend on.

THE METHOD

Learn to move. Move to learn.

Learning in the Feldenkrais Method is not intellectual — it is organic, the way a child learns to crawl and walk: without instructions, through attention. The Method gives us this ability back, at any age and in any condition.

THE MAT — WHERE LEARNING HAPPENS
  • 01How do we overcome pain and harmful movement habits we thought we had to live with?
  • 02How do our skeleton and muscular system actually work?
  • 03How do we use our body and act in our environment while moving?
  • 04And how is all of this connected to what happens within us?
FUNCTIONAL INTEGRATION · ONE ON ONE

Individual lessons

A personal lesson, tailored precisely to you. Through gentle, precise touch, the teacher invites your nervous system to discover new movement options — lighter, easier, more efficient.

AWARENESS THROUGH MOVEMENT · GROUP

Group lessons

A verbally guided group class: sequences of gentle movements and questions that awaken awareness — of movement, breath, and what happens in the body. No imitation, no effort, at your own pace.

PRINCIPLES

Four principles. One path.

I

Independence

No demonstration, no imitation: guidance is verbal, and understanding comes from within — from your own world and your own perception.

II

Awareness

Examining my movement activates my brain. This is how personal awareness grows — of movement, breath and the body — while moving.

III

Free choice

Habits run our lives. The Method offers the brain more options — and lets it discover: maybe there is an easier, better way.

IV

Ease

Why strain when you don't have to? One of the core principles: seek lightness and simplicity — in every movement, every day.

WHY FELDENKRAIS?

No stretching. No force.
Learning.

Every approach has its place. Feldenkrais simply starts somewhere else — with the brain, not the muscle.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

Nothing to prepare. Nothing to be good at.

Most people hesitate because they don't know what a lesson actually is. So here it is, plainly.

01

You arrive as you are

Comfortable clothes, nothing to change into. No fitness level is assumed and nothing is measured.

02

You lie down or sit

Fully clothed, on a low padded table or on the floor. Your teacher talks with you first about what you notice.

03

You move very little

Small, slow, easy movements — always stopping well before effort or pain. The learning happens in the attention, not the exertion.

04

You notice it walking out

Standing taller, turning more easily, breathing lower. Nothing was forced — something was simply reorganised.

DURATIONAround 45–60 minutes
WHAT TO WEARComfortable clothes, socks
PRICESet by each teacher — ask when you book
HOW MANYCome once. Decide after.

No. The Feldenkrais Method is learning, not treatment. Nothing is adjusted, manipulated or corrected — you are guided to notice how you organise yourself, and your nervous system finds an easier way. Many people come alongside medical care; it does not replace it, and your teacher will say so plainly if something belongs with a doctor.

This is the most common question, and the answer is genuinely no. There is no stretching, no strength requirement and no target to reach. Lessons are given lying down or sitting, at whatever range you already have. The ability the Method works with — refining movement through attention — does not decline with age.

Physiotherapy usually works on a specific structure — this shoulder, this knee — with a defined rehabilitation goal, and it does that well. Feldenkrais works one level earlier: on how the whole self coordinates movement in the first place. That is why a lesson about the ribs can change how the neck feels. Different starting point, different question, often complementary.

FOR TEACHERS · GUILD MEMBERSHIP

Membership you can see working.

A guild is only as strong as what it returns to its members. Here is what this site is built to give back to every certified teacher in it.

01

A profile worth sending

Your own page under the Guild's name — photo, languages, how you work, direct contact. Something to send a client instead of a line in a list.

02

Found in your own town

The Guild carries the search visibility that no single teacher can build alone — and points it at the members closest to the person searching.

03

Enquiries that already fit

People arrive having understood what a lesson is and what it is not. Fewer explanations, fewer hesitations, better first conversations.

04

The standard, protected

Certification only means something if the public can see it. Every profile here is a Guild member — and the site says clearly why that matters.
